Who am I? Who am I as an artist, who am I as a person? I followed this course at St. Joost school of art & design to try and find an answer to these questions. What started as a step outside of my comfort zone, ended up being a journey full of collaboration and introspection. View Playbook Museum
My goal for this course was to try out new media in an environment I wasn't familiar with. We students were tasked to give eachother workshops on anything and everyhting, which was a great opportunity for me to dip my toes into different types of arts whilst also improving in media I was already comfortable with, as I had to teach others aswell.
This course gave me the time I needed to reflect on my life as artist and designer, as well as my personal life. I realised alot of my problems were coming from fear of being judged, and fear of the future. I cannot thank the teachers and students at the academy enough for helping me overcome these fears, finding my position in art and helping me to stop overthinking everything I make.
This course also tremendously helped me in finding new creative ways to express myself through art, which I think will translate into other media aswell.
Part of overcoming my fear of not knowing what the future holds was to set goals for myself. Ironically the more I thought about it, the more I started to see that the goals dont have to be clear at all. But one thing is certain; I want to inspire people and evoke emotions. I realise now I don't have to be tunnelvisioned into one or two media, as theres a million ways to do so. That being said, I feel like storytelling through visual media will always be my true passion.
